The stories are pinned to the neighborhoods and the buildings. Buildings tell about people’s lives, the spaces that affect us and are affected by us, and they are the result of seeing, hearing, and experiencing. The development program of Shila restaurant branches and expansion in different neighborhoods created opportunities for maximum interaction between the city and the building (by preserving the old physical characteristics of the building in terms of regeneration and empowerment with a contemporary approach), we were trying to narrate the past of the buildings and Neighborhoods, which are often neglected, and provide the audience of this restaurant with the most direct way to approach the reality around us. We proposed a goal beyond selling the product so that the guests of this building can see the past and the present in one frame and image.

The 40-year-old Khandan shoe store is converted into branch number 32 in one of the busiest places in the northern part of Sayed Khandan bridge, Tehran with a visually chaotic area. A place, however small, in a busy neighborhood, whose impact has left behind the boundaries of the building and entered the arena of culture and interaction. An opportunity to see the past in the present time.

From the Building

The interior space of each branch is like a page of a magazine, an opportunity to talk with the audience by writing and displaying the story of each neighborhood on the glass. We want to search the past and find signs of the present.

To modernize

Reconstruction and modernization of buildings by considering their past identity lead to the introduction of a new urban personality. Modernization includes different dimensions, in this project, the changes have been around the social and environmental axis.

For empowerment

Creating a new urban space by preserving the main features of the old space; appearance similarities and behavioral-normative differences.

To modernize from the reduction viewpoint

Shaving the different layers of the wall and reaching the original part and showing the physical characteristics of the building is a discovery that happens from the heart of a building, a discovery for a generation, to show that its contribution is not just consuming but It gives material and receives space as a gift.

From the Community

For social relations

Creating interaction is the most prominent goal of architecture. In this building, no one tries to hide and they sit together around a tree, others are not strangers in this group, because the warmth of simplicity gives fresh life to this cold city.

To experience the urban space

Social infrastructure is not always built to create a social environment, and it may be used as a social infrastructure at the same time as changing the function of a physical environment. In this project, we see a redefinition of the arrangement in a public space; an escape from a passive look at the usual arrangements and transferring the experience of living in outer space, under one roof, and the inner space.

From the Environment

To keep up

Presenting an architecture concerned with the irresponsible consumption of materials in construction. Creating the possibility of space breathing through the use of original (raw) material in the interior walls. The addition of greenery in one of the most polluted parts of the city in terms of ambient air quality.

To reduce

One is more than two!
In the normal reconstruction methods, one step is considered as deleting old material and then one step as adding new material; In this project, we removed the second step - adding new material.
Intervention as little as possible in the environment Reducing material consumption = reducing the carbon footprint
