Jusmir Cafe

Client: Mr. Ghanbari

Jusmir Cafe with 50 m2 space is located in Tajrish Sq. in the north of Tehran surrounded by a traditional bazaar and historical buildings. The aim of the project was to design a new cafe, considering the small size of the project and its location the main idea inspired by the urban context to transform the traditional elements into an architectural interior space. The neighboring buildings were the inspiration to use the same form for the cafe. At last, the goal was to develop a simple technique so every builder would be able to complete the construction. The main form is made by simple material such as gypsum and rebar for its structure, and also the lighting system is located between the arches that illuminating the whole space. The counter is made by simple material such as wood, glass and an iron framework. Integration of volume and details in walls, ceilings, indoor and outdoor lighting with a traditional material inspired by Iranian architecture to introduce an identity for the project. The floor is made by natural Walnut strip planking, which continues up the walls, furniture, and ends in shelves. Creating a connection between the cafe and the urban context which is famous for a historical Bazar. Avoid using a variety of materials to emphasize the integration of the form. Creating a 3D spatial diagram to answer all the requirements of the design and to demonstrate the structure of the form. Hiding the installation systems of the cafe in-between the layers of the volume. Developing simple construction methods considering the complexity of the form.
