Bootcamp
of Architecture

September, 2022

Boot camp is an event to experience the design process of architecture students under the supervision of experienced and young architects.
A new event named boot camp was held for architecture education under the supervision of young architects in a completely friendly and intimate environment to make the process of architecture education more tangible. This event was an opportunity to gain experience in an intergenerational community of young architects, which placed new students next to more experienced architects so that they could create a new experience of the design process for themselves and test their abilities to be present in the architectural market.
After two years of the Corona pandemic and the distance of students from the warm and intimate environments of architectural studios, the boot camp was considered a great opportunity to experience zero to one hundred stages of the concept formation of a project in an interactive and friendly environment. The participants in the boot camp were in groups of 5 to 7 under the supervision of young architects and carried out the design process for four days on a piece of urban land. It was decided that the design and way of facing this space would be a beginning for similar urban spaces. In this course, students encountered materials that they rarely have the opportunity to learn and experience at the university. For this purpose, the mentors of group 3, Mohammad Kanisavaran, Ojan Salimi, and Golnesa Mottahed, developed a specific program to inform the students about the work process and topics and present the process in written form so that they could use it in their professional projects. The schedule started by doing the preliminary studies and after passing through the relevant scenario writings, proceeded to the examination of case examples and their reading. After this stage, form and function studies were on the agenda, and one model was selected from among the performed models using the concept test and vice versa. Then the students completed the models for presentation, in the meantime, they got to know how to present architectural projects to the employer and the steps that take place in architectural offices to achieve this goal.
This acquaintance was an opportunity to distance themselves from the common mistakes that happen in architectural presentations among students. At the end of the program and preparation, the presentation of the project was offered to the guests and other teams. This four-day opportunity allowed architects and students to think again, an opportunity that might be a light on their path.
