This project, covering approximately 1,800 square meters, is located in the Innovation Center building of Shahid Beheshti University.
Due to the geographical location and architectural design of the building, the interior space benefits from a view of Tehran (on the rare days of clear air).
During the initial meetings with the stakeholders, it was determined that three companies—Pindo, DigiNext, and Digikala Holding—as well as a reserved space for future expansion, would utilize specific areas within this office. While all three organizations operated within the digital technology sector, their distinct corporate cultures required clear spatial boundaries to be established.
Key topics discussed in these early meetings with the stakeholders included organizational culture, structure, policies, values, and visions, as well as the average age of employees, team compositions, their responsibilities, and the challenges they faced in previous office spaces. Additionally, we examined movement diagrams within and between teams and devised a strategy to ensure all employees had access to Tehran’s skyline and natural light.
All the needs and questions raised by the stakeholders were translated into a structured program, which was implemented using a defined algorithm to segment the space. This algorithm was tailored to align precisely with both the needs of the users and the spatial potential of the office. The spatial organization was guided by specific principles, including natural light, organizational fairness, views, corporate relationships, movement flow, security levels within the organization, and corporate culture.
One of the key objectives of the stakeholders was to enhance internal social interactions. To achieve this goal, we adopted several strategic approaches:
1. Creating flexible spaces
2. Designing hybrid movement zones
3. Establishing interactive spaces
4. Transforming fixed workstations into temporary workspaces, allowing employees to work in various locations
5. Defining diverse furniture arrangements to encourage voluntary movement
6. Allocating communal spaces
7. Incorporating recreational and sports areas
The challenges of designing an office space extend beyond correctly defining spatial relationships and aligning them with organizational needs. A fundamental aspect of this process is understanding human needs and recognizing the psychological impact of physical space on its users. Addressing all user requirements to achieve a state of comfort plays a crucial role in shaping a pleasant and desirable work environment. The quantitative and qualitative control of physical elements, such as spatial relationships, directly influences this sense of comfort.
Physical elements include the materials used within the space, their composition with other components, and their visual balance, which is rooted in color, texture, and material purity. The purity of materials reflects their authenticity and natural composition. In this project, in addition to carefully selecting color and texture compositions, we prioritized the use of original materials such as wood, fabric, and water-based paints wherever possible.
Without a doubt, HVAC systems and lighting play a crucial role in achieving these objectives, even though they often remain overshadowed by other visual elements.
Ultimately, the role of architecture is to foster interaction—both between the built environment and its users and among the users themselves.
The more effectively architecture can cultivate these interactions, the more balanced and enriched the surrounding community will become.
