The main challenge of this project for the design team, as a team outside the atmosphere of the city, was to create interaction and alignment with the culture and context of the project. With this goal, in the design process, we tried to pay attention to the deeper layers of the building and the events inside, so that the building can communicate with the context in the best possible way and achieve unity inside and outside.
In fact, the design seeks to create an intermediary, not a message; so that in this way, users and neighbors of the site can interact and not be seen as an uninvited guest in the city.
The main idea of the project is derived from the image of Yazd as the city of deep shadows. In this project, we tried not to invent anything, but to transform reality. We limited the use of material and proposed a specific texture familiar to the environment.
In the initial plan, the design process was defined based on three main goals:
1) Preserve what is valuable;
2) Recreate what was lost;
3) Remove what is annoying.
The final result was the answer we got from the forces of the Context, an answer that fits the spirit of the place and the space in which the building is placed; And we reached purity in material and geometry. A space was created that can best display the beauty of the form in interaction with the light, create a sense of simplicity and originality and show a new form in the city.
We tried to present a logical approach based on passive methods. Paying attention to the outer walls for more shading and anti-sun glasses, as well as reducing the opening surface in the outer walls, have been measures of this kind.
